Case mini-excavators are now made by Kobelco, as are NH's; the old NH line used to be Schaeff (Terex) machines. I see that Yanmar excavators are quite a bit less expensive than Case. The Case salesman claims that their quality is superior overall, when you consider service and parts availability. Anybody else want to share their opinion or experience? The Case guy obviously is not disinterested. But he seems honest and has been with Case for 15 years.

Peter, I have plans to purchase a new (cash) mini. I have been to John Deere 17G, a Bobcat E20,a Case CX17, and am going to look at a Yanmar VIO17 hopefully next week. I have been to trailer dealer and found one. I am going to tow all this with my F150.Hopefully all this will happen buy mid November. I had intention of purchasing a used John . My buddie owns a 2006 CX 130 since new , he has said to me many times its every bit as good as a new cat (his has VERY low hours) at his day job they have a Yanmar mini , cat 330 , cat IT backhoe , cat d5 ...so I would have to say they are high quality smooth operating strong machines. Kobelco built some mini excavators for a time for Case some years ago. At some point Kobelco, Case and Fiat were in bed together and I slightly remember Kobelco bowing out of that situation. D Just wondering what company makes the Gehl excavators. I have a dealer 5 miles way and have rented their units. Seem to work great. Just curious if they have a brother company. Thanks.
However the hardened surfaces of the bearing could be gone and it could start to get worse quickly. This is only for vertical wear. Look for grease to be pouring out of the bearing (bad seal). also on larger excavators, I have seen lots of oil pouring out of the swing bearing because the swing motor seal blew out. I have run the Case mini excavators the CX36 and CX47. I really did not care for the 36. My IHI with 2000 hours and 7 years older had much higher breakout force and seemed to be much heavier built. The 47 was much more impressive. I will say that the Case machines (which are built by Kobelco) are comfortable to run. the end result is that kobelco now makes the excavators for both case and new holland. other than the paint and decals & starting up in a different mode it is a kobelco. case mini exc (compacts) are made by kobelco. the new hollands' from the mini exc, sr up to 135sr up to the 20 ton size, eh215 are made by kobelco too.
