As for using a mini-X on slopes, I have tried it all 4 ways: digging going up the slope with blade on the downhill side, and the other 3 combinations. My conclusion is that it depends on the grade. I was able to do as steep as 40%, but that is at the extreme. Many were at 33% grade (4:12 pitch). I have seen operators of compact excavators dig with the blade in the front and with the blade in the rear. Which way is easiest on the machine drive motors? Does the weight of the machine make a difference? #1. I have many hours of work to do on fairly steep slopes with my mini excavator. I can either: (1) back up the hill and keep the machine level by digging over over the back of the machine with the blade lower than the machine to keep it somewhat level.
