Earlier this yr i bought a 2002 caterpillar 304.5 excavator. The the right foot pedal( boom swing) has always been stiff and does not return to neutral like the left pedal does. I have taken the floor up and cleaned lots of caked in mud and . Here are a few specs, courtesy of www.spec-check.com (where they keep specs for non-current models). One thing I notice is that the 304CR generates more than 40% better bucket breakout force than the 303.5, and outweighs the 303.5 by nearly 30 percent. I have a CAT 304.5 with a odd problem. Sometimes it will not shut off. I've tried disconnecting every relay, the ignition switch, just about every other thing I could find. At first I had to stop it by pulling wire to the fuel shutoff, then I figured out the circuit breaker to the console.

I have an older Cat 304.5 mini-ex that has a serious vibration issue. I had a hydraulic cylinder start leaking, removed it and had the seals replaced. Reinstalled and finished the job, hauled it back to the yard. Sat for a few weeks, started it up, immediate super loud and strong vibration that shakes the whole cab.
Is it a major undertaking to replace the pins and bushing for the boom on a 304.5? I don't have a manual (but if this is covered I can get one) and although I have worked on lots of other equipment and have a pretty complete shop, but . cat 304.5.
